I am so grateful that in just a month I'll be able to walk down the aisle to my almost-husband and then drive off to learn and grow together through the adventure of marriage. What matters is this new life and this new trinity we are forming between each of us and our God. So I refuse to get caught up in the what ifs because that simply doesn't matter. Things never go perfectly - a wedding is a no exception and neither is a marriage. All I'll remember is that in a few moments she'll officially be my niece. It doesn't matter if the flower girl pulls her dress over her head or decides she doesn't want to throw the flowers out of the basket. All anyone will remember is how we kept laughing anyway. So it doesn't matter if we mess up our dance.
The marriage is greater than the wedding. The work we have put into our marriage with our preacher, some friends who are marital counselors, and in deep and hard conversations are more important than all the time and money spent on the wedding.
Sure it will beautiful and special and the best day of our lives until the birth of our children. However, I know that in the grand scheme of things, the wedding is not what matters. Though we're still tying up loose ends, I can honestly say that this wedding is going to be beautiful and unique. We've had a dance lesson, bought a sunbrella for our beach honeymoon, and asked his darling niece and nephew to be flower girl and ring bearer. How exciting is that? I cannot believe how quickly this engagement period has gone and I wouldn't have it any other way! In the past 12 months we have booked the florist, found a bagpiper, ordered the cupcakes, and had too many consultations to count. As I write this I know that in a month from right now my wedding ceremony will be wrapping up.
